This project was a study in designing a symbol system. From the initial stages of brainstorming and photographing, each instrument was sketched and designed to visually communicate balance as well as proportion. I chose to develop a symbol system of acoustic string instruments. I thoroughly enjoyed this  project, learning how to focus on details as well as contrast. Symbols evolved from simple drawing in a sketchbook to carefully curated icons. Each iteration carefully balanced simplification with identification - it couldn't be too complex while also accurately representing the instrument and differentiating it from the others in the acoustic string family. After creating a cohesive symbol system, I decided to compile them in a pamphlet which give detail on the instrument as well as the specs of each one.
